Coach of the Year – Seeing Double

BOTH our head softball coach Rick Fremin, and our head baseball coach, Hill Denson have been named coach of the year by their conference peers.

This is Belhaven’s third coach of the year honors, with Men’s Basketball Coach, Tom Kelsey, also being named to the honor.

Congrats to these leaders and their teams:

RICK FREMIN

Belhaven Head Softball Coach Rick Fremin was named as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year when the announcement was made by the league on Monday.

Coach Fremin is in his fifth season as Belhaven’s Head Coach and has guided the Blazers to a 50-8 record this season and a GCAC regular season championship thanks to a 13-3 mark in conference play. The 50 victories set a new Belhaven school record for most wins in a season helping lead to a number five ranking in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll. In just five short years Fremin has become the program’s winningest softball coach, producing six All-Americans, Two Regional Appearances, and his teams have broken nearly every school record.

HILL DENSON

Belhaven Head Baseball Coach Hill Denson was named as the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year when the announcement was made by the conference on Wednesday night.

Coach Denson is in his tenth season as Belhaven’s Head Coach and has guided the Blazers to a 39-13 record this season and a GCAC Regular Season Championship thanks to a 26-7 mark in conference play. Belhaven is ranked 10th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll and are set to embark on postseason play Thursday night in the GCAC Tournament at Smith-Wills Stadium. Earlier this season, Coach Denson surpassed 1,000 career coaching victories and he has now guided the Blazer baseball program to three GCAC Regular Season Championships and a GCAC Tournament Championship last year.
