Showtime!
Mid-November feels like one of the most roller-coaster times of the year for students in the performing arts here at BC. Somehow this time of year seems to have the highest concentration of tests, papers, projects, in addition to additional rehearsals and such in preparation for concert time (which of course are the highlights of every performer’s year!)… There also tends to be a surplus of fatigue and minor injury due to the wear-and-tear on our bodies. I have a bad… well not bad, just not always nice- right side. By this i mean, things start malfunctioning on the right half of my body for some reason
This semester I have had to deal with returning injuries to my right hip and ankle. These are more so chronic, continued injuries, so I’ve given both body parts names! Andre’ is my ankle; Antoine is my hip (both French!)… Things are getting a lot better with both, but there are still aches and such here and there. I’m looking forward to the concert being a reward for my diligence in spite of the injury.
The upcoming performance for which I’ve been working so hard is the Fall Faculty Dance Concert. This year, the concert will feature 5 works; four original works by Belhaven faculty and one remounted dance originally choreographed by Modern Dance Pioneer Charles Weidman called, Brahm’s Waltzes. This year I’ve been privileged to be in two faculty works (Laura Morton and Caleb Mitchell). Both works are challenging in their own way, but I cannot wait to perform them. I’m confident that the audience will walk away from this year’s show with a greater appreciation for dance.
