Eguiguren Tapped for U.N. Youth

Belhaven IST Alum Francisco Eguiguren, graduate student at University of Bridgeport, has been named Coordinator for the 7th Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations. (http://www.faf.org/unyouthassembly/ya_home.htm). The event will host 700 youth leaders from around the world. Francisco and the University of Bridgeport team received the Distinguished Delegation Award at this year’s National Model U.N., which took place from March 31 – April 3.

IST 402 Presentations

Plan to attend on April 21 at 2:00 p.m. (Student Center Theater) when Danny Bond and Alan Hannon will present their IST 402 presentations. The IST 402 presentation is the culmination of your time at BU in International Studies and details what happened, the study abroad or internship, and where we’re going in the future. Danny’s presentation will happen at 2 followed by Alan’s at approximately 2:45 – 3:00 p.m.

IST majors should plan to be there to support your fellow students!

IST Majors End of Semester Update

Another semester, come and gone! The International Studies majors never cease to impress! We had three great end of semester presentations in IST 402: David Mittwede and Roo Stephan gave a rousing recap of their studies in Italy; Monica York detailed her Vietnam and Honduras adventures; and Carissa Hanson gave a vivid presentation about the realities of foreign mission service from her teaching experience abroad.

Other kudos out this semester to IST Major Alan Hannon:

December 5, 2009: Belhaven University senior defender Alan Hannon of the Belhaven men’s soccer team was NAIA Honorable Mention All American selection when the team was announced by the NAIA on Saturday night (12/5).

Alan Hannon, a native of Offlay Ireland, spent four seasons in a Blazer uniform beginning in the 2006 season. Hannon scored four goals this year and has 10 career goals. Hannon also did a great job of setting up scoring opportunities for his teammates recording four assists in 2009 and had a career high of six assists last year. Hannon was a 2009 GCAC All Conference selection and was second on the team in points with 12 while also helping to anchor a strong Belhaven defense.

Lastly, we want to congratulate and keep in our prayers Monica and David, as they move past graduation and into career; Sydney Morris as she travels next semester to Italy to study abroad in culinary school; Danny Bond, as he makes his study abroad plans; Inori Mitsumoto, as he returns from his semester abroad in Taiwan at Christ’s College.

Next semester promises some high adventure for International Studies. Andy (Andrea) Thomasson will be working to develop an “International Club” (name to be determined) on campus, and she’ll need some help from the majors, so put your global thinking caps on when she calls.

Good luck with your end of semester exams, and Merry Christmas, as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
