Soccer Success

Our soccer teams are having significant success early in the season

WOMEN – Undefeated!

Congratulations to head coach Josue Sabillon and the women’s team for their remarkable start to the 2013 season. Their last victory was over Millsaps College, outshooting them 19-9 and winning by a score of 1-0.

Freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Granlund has three shut outs on the year.  And the team has outscored their five opponents 19-4, and beat Division II Delta State University during this run of games.

The national rankings that will be posted on Tuesday next week should push this team into the polls, as they are one of the few undefeated teams in the country.

MEN – National Program Features Quality of Belhaven Soccer

This week, the Blazers are featured in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s weekly television production. Fans can watch the show and feature by clicking here.  The feature about BU is the first story of the program.

The production is sent to nearly every collegiate coach in the country, though NAIA schools are typically not featured.

“I was incredibly humbled when the NSCAA initially contacted me, and this is a great credit to the guys here,” Head Coach Brian McMahon said. “The opportunity for them to cover us specifically is a tremendous honor. I was told that the NSCAA recognized the quality of play in the NAIA. There is quite a bit of parity between the Division-1 level and the NAIA, so for the NSCAA to recognize that is exciting.”

  1. Congratulations to both coaches. It’s all about relationships, and strong relationships is what has characterized these two leaders (coaches and assistants, coaches and players, players and players, and all three, coaches, assistants, players and God).
