Using Google Docs to Facilitate Team Projects

Julien Marien

Mr. Julien Marion, Assistant Director of Admission at Houston Belhaven, Adjunct Instructor for Belhaven, and Owner of Move Dance and Fitness Center, presented a webinar for Belhaven Adult Studies on Google Docs/Sheets/Slides/Forms and how to use these tools to facilitate team projects on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 over the lunch hour.

Mr. Marion did an outstanding job in sharing about the basics of Google Drive and the various functions available for free for anyone who has a gmail account.  He then launched into a hands-on demonstration of how to use these tools, specifically Google Docs and Google Slides for collaborative creation by inviting several of the webinar participants to “share” a document.  The ability to do real-time editing of the document and to have multiple people working on the slide presentation or the document AT THE SAME TIME was amazing to watch.  There were a lot of “wow” and “cool” statements going in the chat as well as others sharing how this could benefit their classroom experience.  The link for the webinar is here and will also be listed under Faculty Resources.

Using Google Docs to Facilitate Team Projects

The comments from this workshop led to the real likelihood that there will be a follow-up on this webinar looking at more advanced features.

It was obvious Julien was speaking from a personal passion.  I know I learned something and hated to see the time come to an end.  I’m confident that if you take the time to review the presentation you will learn something you will be able to use almost immediately either in the classroom or in your personal life.
